Job and Student Intern Opportunities

  • DOE fellowship
  • Undergraduates and graduating seniors (perm. residents and US citizens only) can apply with gregor@mcs.anl.gov for Summer 2006 fellowships. This is a 10 week program. Lodging will be provided for free. You will receive a stipend. To apply use APPLICATION REU in the subject line.
  • Unpaid Thesis projects: You can participate with me on unpaid theis projects. Topics I am interested in (you can also suggest your own) are
    • "The development of a visual framework to interact with Grid workflows"
    • "The development of a visual framework to coordinate SOA with BPEL"
    • "The performance analysis of a workflow controlled genetic graph partitioning algorthim (possibly a more complex app such as water treatment) on the BlueGene"
    • "Abstracting Grid resource selection and reservation"

All thesis contain a theoretical and a practical part. The code developed will be maintained on the source forge web site we have. None of the projects is trivial and takes considerable effort. If some other student would like to put in a thesis in their course of study, you can approach me. Also if you have your own ideas, let me know. For a thesis to be approved papers need to be filed with the university and your supervisor.

Benefits: Previous students of mine have been (in random order)

  • accepted at CMU with fully paid fellowship from NSF
  • accepted at Stanford
  • written the best student thesis project at Polytechnic NY
  • being the main developer in the CoG Kit project
  • being one of the main developers in the Globus Toolkit project
  • working at Platform
  • working at google
  • working at NASA

We recomend that you obtaina TA and have finished most of your course work.
